President Bryce welcomed members, guests and visitors, particularly Glen Nagle and Michael Kliese who have both signed membership forms. Their induction to be held in about a month to allow their co-sponsor, Mike Egan, to be in attendance.

Warm welcome again to Tiago who is our Rotary Youth Exchange Student. A home has been secured for Tiago but we are looking for somewhere after December. If anyone knows of anywhere please speak with Alison Redfern.

Bryce also welcomed our guests Steve McKewen  (Albury-Hume) who is District 9790 Webmaster and District Membership Chair. Steve has offered to give us a tutorial on Club Runner and Rotary.org. A special welcome was afforded our guest speaker, Lou Bull, from the Petaurus Education Group.

Jean Burke announced that she and Russell Hook had been invited to participate in the interview panel for UNSW Rural Clinical School for the Rural Student Entry Scheme. This scheme is an initiative to promote medicine to applicants with an extensive rural background. It was an honour to be asked after they participated last year. Well done, Jean and Russell!

Mike Burke presented a certificate to President Bryce for the Club’s contribution to the Country Hope camp at the Great Aussie Holiday Park in Bowna.

Jim Crawford attended the Astor hotel on Friday night and announced they raised $666.00 The raffle jackpotted to $8,500 with numbers between 1-20. Mike Burke also mentioned the meals at the Astor have really improved and that Rotary Albury have a table booked for Friday night. He and Jean won’t be able to attend but all are welcome to come along for a meal, fellowship and the chance to win.

Chris Lewis went to Merimbula for a holiday and was a guest at the Merimbula Rotary Club. They were celebrating a ‘Pink’ night for Breast Cancer. They had breast care nurses there that gave a presentation and a general pink theme. A great night was had.

RYLA is looking for nominations with the program starting in about four weeks. They are looking for 18-30 year olds to participate in a youth leadership experience where they can develop their skills as a leader while having fun and making connections.

Only a fortnight until our Melbourne Cup event. Looking for a good turn out of our members as we host Albury North and Albury-Hume clubs. This will be held in the Stanley Room at the Commercial Club. The night will cost $40 per head, which needs to be paid into our account at Hume Bank. BSB 640-000 Account number 111090097 (please ensure you use your name as a reference). This has to be done a week before the night as the Commercial Club requires numbers for meals. The menu is going to be chicken mignon or sage crumbed lamb cutlets followed by sticky date pudding or flourless chocolate cake. If you have any special dietary requirements please make that known when you register. There will also be lots of raffles and games on the night. All money raised goes to Polio Plus.

Tonight’s raffle raised about $80.00 with proceeds to go to Youth Exchange Program.

Rotary Information

Guest Speaker

Steve McKewen gave a tutorial on using our website https://alburyrotary.club/

And our district website

https://www.rotary9790.org.au/

and Rotary International

https://www.rotary.org/en

There was an emphasis on using our calendar to promote our events. These then show up on the District website. You can also look at the District’s calendar to see what events are happening around us.

Steve also recommended everyone downloading Clubrunner on their mobile phone. It has everyone’s contact details for easy access.

We also need to use our events on Facebook and ensure that we all like and share. It’s a great form of advertising.

Lou Bull did a wonderful presentation on the Squirrel Glider Local Area Management Plan (LAMP) Project in the Burrumbuttock area. Lou has been working with local land holders to monitor and connect habitats for the local Squirrel Glider population as they are now listed as Vulnerable in NSW. They have been doing large planting and fencing in the area to enable movement of the gliders from nearby habitats.

Lou proposed a partnership with Rotary where Rotary would assist with the cost of stock proof tree guards and possibly help to install some of them.
