The Rotary Club of Albury
Chartered 1927

Monday august 17th

Guest Speaker

Our Italian RYE student Ariele gave a very interesting presentation to the Club tonight. The presentation introduced us to her family and the fact her father was an exchange student to the USA in his younger days, her pet cat which she misses dearly, information about her hometown of Turin in northern Italy, her hobbies and likes and dislikes. Ariele is settling into school well, enjoying what Albury has to offer and is looking forward to cuddling a koala if the opportunity presents itself, seeing more of Australia, and establishing friendships that she can treasure for year to come. Ariele is currently being hosted by the Anstis family enjoying the quiet township of Jindera and being introduced to "ozzie meals" and "vanilla slices" along with a few take away treats.
I believe Turin has a population in the order of 850,000 with lots of multi-story building obviously a lot different to Albury and Jindera.
We gained a glimpse of her artistic talents and look forward to having Ariele's company at meetings and events through the year.
We were also lucky to have SOL, an exchange student from Argentina, sponsored by the HIVE Rotary Club give a brief presentation on how she has been enjoying the first 6 months of her stay.
It was wonderful to her from both RYE's and we hope them good luck and best wishes for their 12-month placement.

The CH office is at 371 Macauley Street thank you to those who have RSVP and paid, if you intend to attend, please let Michael know to finalise catering arrangements. CH will be presented with the funds raised over the last few months through the Astor raffles.

Karen: Updated members on the 5 x 5th Year medical students who were successful in being selected for a Graham Turner Bursary to offset the cost for their overseas placements. A formal presentation will take place in early November, and plans are underway to have the students present to our Club in March next year.

Jean: Following on from the success of the morning tea for Ken at Clarries. Jean is planning to organise another get together next month - further details at our next meeting.

from past President Peter

Our recent morning tea send-off for Ken Curnow was a wonderful catch up, Ken is truly a gentleman in every aspect, dedicated Rotarian, fantastic community member and fascinating storyteller. Although a ripe old age of 93 his mind is as sharp as ever, jovial and excellent company. So many wonderful stories and memories to share. Thanks, Ken, for your 69 outstanding years of Rotary service, I am not sure that will ever be matched. Thank you.

An invite has been sent out to RC Albury to attend an event at Aspect Riverina, called a Brilliant Bunch. Mike & Jean will attend.

DG Paul Meigel has invited members to join the Muscats on the Murray event if interested.

Once again, we plan to provide a catering team for the O&M Grand final on Sunday 20th September. Please add it to your calendar many hands make light work. Further details next meeting.

One late note to add to the Bulletin - the plaque for the Rotary Seat in the Botanical gardens has finally arrived and we will make arrangements with ACC to have it installed.
