Guest Speaker

Ant Packer - Parklands Albury Wodonga

Ant gave us a very informative talk about some of the work that Parklands Albury Wodonga with the Project 66 Murray River trail. This is 66km long and utilises crown waterfront reserves to showcase the unique riverine landscape. Some of this work included removing trees such as Black Willow, fencing, pedestrian chicane gates, boardwalks and revegetation of the corridor.
Ant thanked the RC of Albury for supporting the project and providing the grant to assist with this.

IN OTHER NEWs - time on air

  • Glen spoke about the Purple Picnic which is on 30th August and also the the Domestic Violence Forum one 16th September (See below)
  • Alison and Rodger attended the RYE orientation weekend in Beechworth on 9th and 10th of August. Also in attendance were our current inbound student, Sara, and our future outbound student Lilly. We also had three Rotex members in Tanner, Eva and Elsie. It was a great weekend to meet all of the students that have just arrived for their exchange year and the Australian students preparing to go overseas next year.

From President Peter

President Peter informed members about his recent weekend to Axedale for Disaster Aid Australia (DAA). He participated in various training such as DAA operational manuals, emergency shelter construction and water filtration units. This was part of DART which is Disaster Aid Response Team.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING SEPTEMBER MEETINGS.

MEETING CHANGES for the month of September dates 1st / 15th / 29th

Our Club has been approached by the Master Builders Association and Wodonga TAFE to once again provide a BBQ service for two functions they have organised.

The Board have agreed to pursue these functions in accordance with the broad support for more community projects expressed in the recent member questionnaire.

Instead of holding a meeting on Monday 1st September we will attend the APPRENTICE INFORMATION NIGHT at the Wodonga TAFE Trade Training Centre, McKoy Street campus (accessible via Moorfield Park Drive). While some members will be responsible for BBQ cooking, others may fly the Rotary flag, interact with attendees, and learn about efforts to encourage students to pursue trade apprenticeships. Our presence may even prompt interest in Rotary for a new member or two. The event commences at 5.30pm with the BBQ set up and cooking prior to that. RSVP to Peter Elias if you are available to attend by Wednesday 27th August.

Monday 15th September – will be a normal meeting.

Tuesday 16th September – Rotary Border Community Group DV Forum at the CUBE Wodonga. RSVP by 1st Sept to Glen Nagle if you are available to attend and we will do a group booking.

Sunday 21st September – O&M Grand Final catering. RSVP to Charlene by 8th Sept

Monday 29th September – nominated as an OFF-SITE VISIT on the roster but will revert to a normal Club meeting.

Tuesday 30th September – 5 volunteers required to provide a BBQ for the Murray Division Trade Night, hosted by Master Builders Association of NSW on Tuesday 30th September 2025 at DLG in Thurgoona. Commencing at 5.00pm. RSVP to Peter Elias if you are available to attend.

Monday 6th October – Club meeting as per roster.
