Guest Speaker
In December 2016, our guest speaker, Albury High School student Cody Hastings set off on his World Challenge Adventure which was originally planned to go to Sri Lanka, but due to political unrest there, was redirected to Cambodia.
Cody explained that World Challenge provides school trips that are designed to inspire students to take on the world through teaching life skills and expanding minds outside the class room. These expeditions truly provide a life changing experience with over 7000 students all over the world being involved each year visiting over 40 counties.
Nineteen other students from Albury High were in the team and they experienced adventure hiking, camping out, face to face contact with younger local students by reading them books and building playground equipment for them. Cody had prepared a PowerPoint presentation which he showed the members.
Cody thanked Albury Rotary very much for their financial support.
RCA Member Helen Grills presented President Ken with a banner from her visit to the twelfth oldest Rotary Club in the world. The question for members is what club did Helen visit?
Induction of New Members
President Ken inducted two new members into the club. These were (Left to Right) Bryce Ian McNair (Educational Services) and Shaun Taylor (Project Management International). The Rotary Club of Albury members welcomed these new members with their right hand offered in friendship.
Induction of President Jean Burke by Ken Curnow
President Jean Burke's acceptance speech "Thank you, Ken, and your board for all the good work you have achieved over the past year. I am honoured to be your president for the coming year especially as our club will be celebrating a significant anniversary on the 2nd November – 90 years of continuous service to the community. Rotary International President Ian Riseley’s theme this year is 'making a difference' and I will be challenging all members to come up with and participate in new ideas.
