Rotary Club of Albury Foundation donates money to help Unitingcare Wodonga to prepare food for the needy

UnitingCare Wodonga cooks up 250 meals every Monday for needy people in Albury-Wodonga

Each Monday morning six to eight volunteers produce 250 meals at UnitingCare Wodonga for needy people in Albury-Wodonga.
By Wednesday most of the meals have been donated such is the demand for this service.
UnitingCare Wodonga emergency relief co-ordinator Catherine Byrne said what started as a community cookery class for former clients had blossomed into a vital emergency relief program.
In 2015 the kitchen prepared 10,622 meals for needy families on the Border.
“It’s nice to be able to send people away with a meal or two already prepared and also with fruit and veg,” she said.
“Having a couple of easy-ready, nutritious meals they can pop in the microwave is amazing.”
The meat is donated by Border supermarkets and fresh fruit and vegetables come from varied sources

Members from the Rotary club of Albury received a tour of the facility and given some insight into the needs of the centre, and how our money will go to buying much needed equipment to ensure making and storage of safe, nutritious food .
After the members left the centre, the club then went on to Elgine's for a meal and fellowship.
This tour was a nice change to our normal Monday night meeting, and gave the members a chance to see the benefits that the donations bring to community service providers first hand.
